Role of Task-Based Technique in Teaching Reading Comprehension

Abstract

The present study entitled 'Role of Task-Based Technique in Teaching Readingcomprehension'was carried out with the objectivesto find out the effectiveness oftask-based technique in teaching reading comprehension and tosuggest somepedagogical implications. This was the experimental type of research.For thispurpose, sixty students of Rastriya Navajagrit Higher Secondary School of Kailalidistrict were taken as sample population.The students were divided into two equalgroups–experimental and control group.The pre–test score was taken as a basisand they were grouped on the basis of their odd–even rankingprocess.The controlgroup was taught using traditionalmethod or teacher-centered method whereasthe experimental group was taught using task-based technique.At the end of 24lessonplans, a post–test was taken and the data were analyzed and interpreted.Theresultshowed that experimental group performedbetterthan the control groupin all eight test items. This thesis consists of four chapters.Chapter one includes introduction in whichthe thesis throws light on language, task-based language teaching,readingcomprehension, review of related literature,objectives of the study andsignificance of the study.Chapter two gives an account of methodology used inthe present study.It includes sources of data,sample population and samplingprocedure, tools for datacollection,process of datacollection andlimitations ofthe study.Chapter three is all about analysis and interpretation of obtained data.The tables have been used to interpret the data.Chapter four includes findingsandpedagogical implications have been provided at the end.
