Abstract: This study is concerned with the‘effectiveness of realia over matchstickfiguresin teachingpresentcontinuous tense’. The researcher selectedShree PashupatiHigherSecondary School, Pathraiya, Bardiya as aresearch area for this study. There were 30 students as theinformants. APer-test was given before teaching to determinetheproficiency level ofthe students at the beginning. Then, they were divided into two groups onthe basis of the odd and even roll number in terms of individual scores.After dividing them into two groups, one group was taught the presentcontinuous tense through realia and other group through matchstickfigures. Then, theresults of both thepre-test and the post-test werecompared to determine the effectiveness of the two techniques. Thefinding of this study isthat teaching present continues tense though realiais moreeffective than teaching through matchstick figures. This study consistsof four chapters. The first chapter consists of generalbackground of the study, review of the related literature, objectives andsignificance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodologyadopted to carry out the research.In other words, it includes the sourcesof data, sample and sampling procedure, tools for data collection, processof data collection and limitations of the study. The third chapter consistsof analysis and interpretation of data in terms of the difference betweenthe average scores in percentage of each group in the pre-test andthepost-test. The fourth chapter presents the findings and recommendations.The findingsarederived from the analysis and interpretation of the data.In the final section of the study, the references and appendixes areincluded.
