Abstract: This thesis has been prepared to identify and analyse errors committed by tenth graders in forming statements and interrogative sentences. The objectives of the present study were to identify the errors committed by grade ten students while forming statements and interrogative sentences and to compare the errors committed by the students of public and private schools. For the study, four secondary schools of Kathmandu district were selected. Only eighty students of grade X, twenty from each of the selected secondary schools were chosen randomly. The researcher found out that the students of all the four selected schools commonly committed different errors. And the errors are; errors in subject verb agreement, misordering, deletion, addition, wrong use of determiners and the period of time with ‘for’, errors in the formation of noun phrases and prepositional phrases, and errors in sentence formation with modal auxiliary verbs and positive and negative yes/no question formation with ‘be’ and ‘have’ verbs along with wh-question formation.The researcher also found out that the private school students are better than public school students in forming statements and interrogative sentences. This thesis is divided into four chapters. Each chapter is divided into different sub-chapters. The first chapter deals with general background of the study, review of literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology, data gathering procedure and limitations of the study. The third chapter deals with analysis, interpretations and presentation of the data. The chapter four deals with findings and recommendations and the final part of the thesis includes references and appendices.
