Abstract: This thesis entitled "Writing Proficiency of Tourist Guides" attempts to find out the writing proficiency of tourist guides, who have the academic qualification of at least S.L.C. To collect the data the researcher consulted many tourist guides who belong to different culture and ethnicity. The total sample of the study consists of 50 tourist guides (twenty-five male and twenty-five female) of the Pokhara valley who were selected by using judgemental non- random sampling procedure. For this the researcher prepared two different sets of questions viz. rewriting questions and long answer questions which were aimed to measure the overall writing performance and their mechanics of writing. The raw scores of the tourist guides were tabulated on the basis of variables specified. Simple statistical tools were used to analyze the data by calculating the average and percentage. It was found that the writing performance of tourist guides around Pokhara valley is quite satisfactory. This study also shows that they maintained the average standard of using mechanics of writing and there was not much difference between the performance of male and female though female excelled the male in their total performance. The study consists of four chapters. Chapter one consists of the general background of the study, review of related literature, objectives of the study, significance of the study and definitions of the specific terms.
