Abstract: The present study “Teaching of English Spelling and students’ performance” aimed at finding out the relation between teaching spelling and students’ performance who are involved in teaching and learning activities in government aided school. Since no research has been carried out to detect the relationship between teaching spelling and students’ performance under the Department of English Education, the present study attempts to find out the relationship between teaching spelling and students’ performance and suggests some recommendations to eliminate those errors. For that purpose I selected two schools of Baglung district and 20 students from each school by using simple random sampling. Different test items i.e. questionnaire for teachers, questionnaires for students and spelling test item were administered to 20 students and 2 teachers from each school during school time. From the study it was found that dictation, copying, and reading aloud were mostly used techniques of teaching spelling and it was also found that teaching spelling increases the accuracy of students and develops good writing performance. This study is divided into four main chapters. The first chapter deals with general introduction of the study. It also consists of review of the related literature, objectives and significance of the study. Chapter two deals with the methodology; i.e. how the research was carried out. The study is based on both primary and secondary sources of data, population of the study, sample population, sampling procedure, tools of the data collection and limitations of the study have also been included. Chapter three deals with an analysis and interpretation of the collected data. Chapter four includes findings and recommendations of the study.
