Abstract: This thesis attempts to find out the reliability of SLC question papers of English subject, (2063 year).In order to do so, the researcher collected the information through both primary and secondary sources of data. After obtaining primary and secondary data, they were presented exclusively in the tabular form as well as graphic form for the study. The data were analyzed in terms of different variables such as school, sex and set of questions and as a whole with the same variables and using the stastical methods of mean, co-relation analysis. At the end, findings as well as recommendations have been made. The main objectives of the study were to find out the consistency of the scores between two results, test –retest and final SLC exam .As a whole, it was found that the consistency of the score was higher in public schools than that of the private schools that lead to conclusion that, therefore SLC question paper (2063) showed high reliability in public schools than in private schools. The study is divided into four main chapters and sub chapters. Chapter one consists of general background, history of the SLC English examination system in Nepal, English Curriculum of secondary level, testing, teaching and reliability, review of the related literature, objectives of the study, significance of the study and definition of the specific terms. Chapter two deals with methodology. It encompasses sources of data, population of the study, sample population, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study. Chapter three consists of analysis, interpretation and presentation of data. It includes comparison between the performances of the students in the two examinations, test-retest and SLC Examination; It has been compared in terms of sex, question sets and schools-wise. It also includes co-relational analysis of the above mentioned data in order to find out the reliability of SLC question papers and factors influencing the results. Chapter four consists of the findings and recommendations. This chapter is followed by references and appendices.
