Abstract: This research is carried out to find out the techniques used in teachingpoetry in 'Heritage of Words' in grade-XII and also to compare the techniquesused by the teachers in urban and rural areas of Panchthar district. Whileundergoing research, the researcher samples four higher secondary schools ofthe district on the basis of cluster sampling procedure (i.e. on the basis ofgeographical proximity). Two schools are selected from the districtheadquarterand other two from the rural areas of the district on the basis of judgmentalsampling procedure. The researcher finds various techniques like explanation,translation recitation, group work/pair work and discovery are being used whileteaching poetry. He also finds the difference between the techniques used bythe teachers in urban and rural areas of the district. It generally contains four chapters. The first chapter gives a shortintroduction about the title and background information, review of the relatedliterature, significance of the study and objectives of the study. The secondchapter summarizes the plans and procedures adopted by the researcher tocarry out this research. It covers about the sources of data (primary andsecondary), population of the study sampling procedures and limitations of thestudy. The third chapter analyzes and interprets the data using statistical toolslike tables and in the form of percentage. The fourth chapter summarizes thefindings of the study and recommends for further improvements.
