Title: Study on The Ability of Teachers To Contruct Test Items:A Case of Lower Secondary English Teachers

Abstract: This research work is carried out first to find out the lower secondaryEnglish teachers proficiency to design test papers and second to analyze the testpapers in terms of rubrics, reliability, validity, economy, practicability anderrors. To carry out the research, both primary and secondary sources wereused. The primary sources of data were the test papers prepared by the lowersecondary English teachers and answer sheets of grade VIII students ofKanchanpur district. The researcher randomly selected 25 lower secondarygovernment schools of Kanchanpur district. Then she visited each of theselected schools and selected two teachers from each. The selected teacherswere asked to design a question paper that covers only reading and writingskills of the present course ofEnglish for grade seven. Similarly 30 students ofgrade eight were randomly selected from Siddhanath secondary school.Badaiapur, Kanchanpur and the test paper was administered to the selectedstudents that was prepared by the teacher. The same test paper wasadministered four times in equal interval. The collected answer sheets werechecked. The researcher has used statistical tools to analyze and interpret thedata; mean, standard deviation and correlation coefficient were used. The major finding of the study was that the majority of the teachers wereproficient to set good test paper. The study consists of four chapters. Each of them has been divided in tovarious sub chapters. The first chapter consists of the introduction with general background,teaching and testing, review of related literature, objectives of the study andsignificance of the study. The Second Chapter includes methodology which consists of sources ofdata, population of the study, sample population, tools for data collection,processof data collection and limitation of the study. The Third Chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of the data.The final chapter deals with the findings and recommendation of the study. The finding and appropriate recommendations have been outlined on thebasis of the analysis and interpretation of the data.
