Abstract: This thesis attempts to determine and analyze the performance anderrors in the use of verbs in free writingbystudents who are studyingingrade8. To carry out this research, 100 students(20 from each school)studying five public schoolsinDolakha district were selectedrandomly. For collectingdata, a test consistingofthree test items was administered to the students.Thestudents were intended to write some paragraphs on the given topics. The freewriting of the students was analysed. Accordingly, the findings wereconcluded. The findings of this study have shown that the performance of the grader is not satisfactory regarding the use of verbs in free writing.Furthermore, the students seemed to commit the highest number of errors in theomission of 'Be' verb in their writing. This dissertationconsists of four chapters. Chapter one introduces thstudy with general background i.e. overview on English Language Education,ELT,grammar and error analysis. This chapter also deals with the review the related literature, the objectives and significance of the study. Chapter two deals with the methodologyof the study. It comprisessources of data, population of the study, tools and process for data collectionand limitation of the study. Chapter three deals with the analysis and interpretation of data usingdifferent tables, percentage,etc. Chapterfour consists of findings and recommendations. Eventually, references and appendices are given. The appendix partincludes research tool and other informations.
