Abstract: This thesis is basically a study of English Code Mixing in the Nepali Newspapers, The Gorkhapatra and the Kantipur Daily in terms of frequency of occurrence. In this study, secondary sources were used for the collection of data i.e. from 15th of Ashad to 21st of Ashad of the year 2063. The researcher used the technique of purposive non-random sampling, so that he got 14 newspapers, seven from each. He collected the data by using the observational sheets as research tool. The researcher has made word wise comparison, linguistic unit based comparison, frequency wise comparison and holistic comparison of English code mixing. The overall study comes to the end that the English words mixed in KD was found in higher position than GD in a week and the mixing of abbreviated words are being increased day by day. Sentence level mixing and clause level mixing in Nepali newspapers has the least occurrence in both of the newspapers. This thesis contains altogether four chapters. Chapter one deals with the introduction. It consists of general background, an overview of code switching and code mixing, difference between code-switching and code mixing, factors leading to them, an introduction to journalism, history of journalism, an introduction to Gorkhapatra and Kantipur Daily, fundamentals of language structures, word formation process, review of related literature, objectives of study, significance of the study and definition of the terms. Chapter two describes the methodology applied in order to carry out this research. It also includes the tools and process of data collection and the limitation of the study. Chapter three deals with the analysis and interpretation of the data. The data are analzyed and compared using the statistical tools like tables, bar diagrams, frequency, percentage, etc. Chapter four presents findings of the study, pedagogical implications and recommendations.
