Abstract: This research work entitled "Reading Comprehension of Poetryand Short Story" has been carried out to find out the comprehension levelof the students in poetry and short story and make comparisons.Thestudents, studying at grade 12 in three different colleges of Kathmandudistrict were the sources of collection of this study.They were examinedby tests basedon four different texts, each bearing 50 full marks. Twotexts were seen and two were unseen. Altogether 60 students were takenas the sample population to administer the test. From the analysis of the data obtained, it is found that the comprehension level of the students is better in poetry thaninshort story. The OCL of male students isbetter in poetry than female. OCL in seentexts is better than in unseen texts, their performance was better in theobjective types of test than subjective typesof test.The thesis is dividedinto four chapters: The first chapter of this thesis contains thegeneral back ground ofthe study, review of related literature, significance of the study, objectivesof the study and definitions of the specific terms. The second chapter contains the methodology used for theresearch. It includes sources of data, population for the study, tools fordata collection, process of data collection and the limitationsof the study. The third chapter dealswith the analysis and interpretation of theraw data obtained from the students. The data were analyzed putting the min different variables and using the statistical tools like mean and percentage. The fourth or last chapter deals with the findings of this research work and recommendations made on the basis of the findings.Finally, the references and appendices are included.
