Abstract: This study was conducted to examine the Effectiveness ofDiscovery Technique in Teaching of the grammatical functions. Theselected objectives were as follows: (i) To determine the effectiveness ofdiscovery technique in teaching of the grammatical functionsand (ii) Tosuggest some pedagogical implications on the finding of the study. This study was conducted in Sanothimi Education campus,Bhaktapur. The students of B.Ed. first yearmajoringEnglish were takenas thesampleof the study. The selected students were divided into twogroups:experimental and control, on the basis of the pre-test result withodd-even ranking. To collect data the researcher taught both the groups upto twentyregular running classes. The experimental group was taught by usingdiscovery technique whereas control group by usingusual classroomteaching. What he did was, used different lessonplansand materials forboth the groups while teaching. After the completion of the classroom teaching a post test wastaken and then obtained marks of both the testswerecompared to eachother to determine the effectiveness of discovery technique in teachingthe given topic. From this study, it was found that the discovery techniquewasmore effective than usual classroom teaching while teaching thegrammaticalfunctions. The study consists offourchapters which are given below:Chapter one consists of a brief introductoryof related area of thestudy. It includesobjectives,significanceof the study and definition ofspecific terms. Chapter two deals with the methodological procedures appliedduring the study. Chapter three consists of analysis and interpretation of the data.The data were analyzed and interpreted on the basis of the differencebetween the average scores (in percentage) of each group in the pre-testand post-test. Chapter four deals with the findings and recommendations of thestudy.
