Abstract: This study entitled "Effectiveness of Teaching Manual at Grade Eleven" was conducted to examine the effectiveness of Teaching Manual while teachingcompulsory English at grade eleven. This study was conducted in SiddhanathHigher Secondary School Jimuwa, Kanchanpur. The students of grade eleven weretaken as the sample of the study. The selected students were divided into twogroups: experimental and control on the basis of the pre-test result with odd-evenranking. To collect data the researcher taught both the groups upto nineteen regularclasses. The experimental group was taught by using teaching manual whereas thecontrol group was taught without using teaching manual. The same teaching item,medium of instruction and materials were used to teach boththe groups. They weretaught side by side. After the completion of the classroom teaching, a post-test wasgiven and the result of both the tests were compared. Similarly, the scores obtainedby these two groups (experimental and control) were also compared to determinethe effectiveness of the teaching manual in teaching compulsory English. From the study, it was found that teaching English by using teaching manualwas more effective than teaching without using it. This thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter One is an introductory chapter.It includes general background, the review of the related literature, objectives ofthe study and significance of the study. Chapter Two deals with the methodological procedures applied during thestudy. Chapter Three consists of analysis and interpretation of the data.Chapter four deals with the findings and recommendations of the study. Lastly, this chapter is followed by references and appendices.
