Abstract: PropagationofGinkgo bilobaL. wasconducted through stemcutting ofhardwood and semi hard wood. Thecuttings from basal part of the treewereselected for the experiment.Auxins likeIAA, NAA and IBA wereeffective to induce rooting. The stemcuttings treated with 1000ppm IAA for 30 minutes showedhighest percentage (90%) rooting. The average root lengthmeasured4.66cm.Thecuttings treated with 500ppm IBA for 30minutescouldinduce healthy roots measuring12cm the cuttings treated with IAAshowed higher rooting percentage in rainy season i.e. June, July. Thecuttings treated with higher concentration ofIBAandNAAshowed lessrooting.IAAwas found the most effectivehormone for rooting ofGinkgobilobacuttings.Anatomical studies of normal and rooted stemswere alsoperformed. Vascular cambium, secondary phloem, cortical cells andpericycle cells took part on rooting. Propagationof cuttingsis an effectivepractice forex-situ conservationofplants. The well-rooted cuttings were planted in the natural condition.
