Abstract: ABSTRACT This study entitledPerceptions of Teacher'sTowardsin Action Research forProfessional Developmentaimed atidentifying the teachers’perceptiontowards of action research, its procedure and practices for TPD.Secondly, ithad the objective tofind outthe teachers’viewson the role of action researchfor their professional development. I used non-random purposive samplingprocedure and collected data from forty secondary level English languageteachers teaching in private and public schools in the Kathmandu Valley(Kathmandu and Lalitpur district) through questionnaires. Thecollected datawerepresented in tables and pie-charts; and analyzed and discussedquantitatively. The major findings of the researchwerethe most of the teacherswere foundto be aware of action research;there was culture of action researchin schools too; however, the teachers did not have usual habit of carrying outan action research; the most of the teachers supported that the action researchhad significant role in teachers’ professional development though it had somedrawbacks. The thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter is an introductory chapter.It includes background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of thestudy, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the studyand operational definitions ofthe key terms. The second chapter deals withreview oftheoreticaland empirical literature, implication of review of literaturefor the studyand conceptual framework of the study. The third chapterincorporateswith methodology which incorporates research design andmethod,population, sample and sampling strategies,research tools andtechniques, sources of data,data collection procedures,data analysisprocedure and ethical considerations.The fourth chapterincludeswith therigorous analysis of data and interpretation of results.The fifth chapter presentsthefindings,conclusion and recommendations of this research in differentlevels such as policy related, practice related and further research related ones.References and appendicesare included inthe concluding part of the thesis.
