Abstract: This research study entitled Impact of Socio-economic Status of Tharu StudentsinLearning English aimed to explore the impact of socio-economicstatus of Tharu students in learning English.All Tharu students of secondary level of Kailali district from both government-aided and private schools of Lamki-Chuha municipality were the population of the study. Purposively 3government-aided and 3 private schools were selected for the research.Among the Tharu students, 30 Tharu students of grade nine were selected randomly as sample of the study.In order to meet the objectives,I used a set of questionnaire as the main too land mark ledger as the secondary source to collect the required information.The collected data was analyzed and interpreted qualitatively and quantitatively using tables and graphs. The study found that factors belonging to socio-economic status such as parents' education, language, parents' support for study, family status in society,availabilityof materials, family income, parents' occupation and reading room has direct and indirect impact in learning English.Due to such factors there is no satisfactory achieve ment and result in learning English of Tharu studentsand they have to face challenges in learning English as their socio-economicstatus ismiserable and unsupportive. The study consistsof five chapters. The first chapter deals with the in troductionof the topic in which background of the study, statement of the problems,objectives of the study,research question, signi ficance of the study,delimitations of the study and operational definition of the key terms. The second chapters includes the review of the theoretical literature, review of empirical literature, implication of the review for study and conceptual framework. The third chapter contains design and method of the study, x population,sample and sampling strategies, study area, data collection procedure and analysis and interpretation procedure.The fourth chapter contains the analysis and interpretation of the collected data using different tables and figures. Similarly, the fifth chapter deals with the conclusion and recommendation and ends with references and appendices.
