Subversion of patriarchy in Shaw’s Candida and mrs. Warren’s profession: A feministic approach

Abstract
The study has focused on the activism of the female characters in George
Bernard Shaw’s plays Candida and Mrs. Warren’s Profession. The main thrust of the
research is the picture of a society reformed as a subverted patriarchy and its features.
The female characters in the plays are fully emancipated and act freely dominating the
males, to create fairer society with equality between males and females. The main
problem of the research was what the females do to subvert patriarchal system, and
why the author supports their moves. With the objectives to find out the answers to
the questions, the research proceeded to concluded that the female characters in the
plays capture all the social power, bring males under their control and establish better
social system, in which the males and females both seem satisfied. As socialist
playwright, Shaw favors these females and their activities carried out to subvert the
patriarchy. Feminism has been applied as the tool for analyzing the texts.
