dc.description.abstractThis report presents the results of the study entitled as "Socio- economic Condition of Raute: A Case Study of Settled Raute of TwoVillages (Ampani and Rajyauda) of Dadeldhura District" accomplishedduring September to December 2006. The main objectives of this studyare to examine the social condition of Raute, to examine economiccondition of Raute and to examine the socio-economic problems ofRaute. The study is descriptive in nature. It is based on a sample of 20 households whoever selected by using simple random sampling techniques. The data were obtained throughhouseholds questionnaireschedule, key informant interview and observation. Both primary andsecondary data were used for the research. Data has shown that Rautemale population is higher than the female population in the study area. Inthe case of education, 80 percent of the respondents were illiterate. Soliteracy rate is very low in the Raute community. The settled Rautes cultural activities are not such different fromthose of other Hindu caste. But life cycle ceremonies are seems somedifferent fromother caste people. Their all daily activities, customs arechanging day by day. Raute economy is primarily based on woodextensive activities. Raute spend most of their time on wood splitting andfitting, wage labour and agricultural activities. Agriculture, livestock,fishing etc. are secondary source of economy. Raute are living in Primarystage of poverty. Nowadays, to solve hand to mouth problem, Rautepeople are engaged in different types of work activities.en_US
