Abstract
This study on causes and Consequences of migration phenomenon interims of causes
and its effect of leaving origin based on field survey. The main objectives of this
study are: there is close relationship between number of migrants and poverty & there
is inverse relationship between migrants and agriculture dependency.
This study has conceptualized migration as a part of human effort made to achieve the
unknown best living that would give ultimate satisfaction.
The study was focused in Katari VDC ward no 1,2 and 3 of Udayapur district.
Information from 105 households were collected. There was a total population of 540
with 285 males and 255 females. The causes and consequences of inmigrants was
observed in this study. The main destination of migration were urban centers, fertile
land area.
Majority of inmigrants left their place of origin due to searching of good opportunity.
Internal conflict is also responsible to increase the inmigrants in Katari. Nearly 60
percent inmigrants self choose Katari VDC as destination place and the high number
of inmigrants were found from Okhaldhunga, Khotang, Sindhuli. It also proved that,
distance between the origin and destination place determine the stream of migration.
The major conclusions: The study was increased migration, whereas low productivity
and insufficient land, lack of physical facilities and economic opportunity, causes of
origin. Decrease in poverty, modern system of agriculture, business centre, physical
infrastructure, high educational status was consequences of migration
