Case in English and Jhangar

Abstract

The thesis entitled 'Cases in English and Jhangar' is the first research work on the case system of the Jhangar language. It strives for listing all the Jhangar cases and for comparing and contrasting them with those of the English language. The researcher collected data from both the primary and secondary sources. Sixty people were selected as sample population exploiting stratified random sampling procedure, particularly the disproportionate type from three VDCs of Sunsari district. The structured interview was exploited to collect the data. The main findings of this research work are: (a) Jhangar has less number of cases than English but the Jhangar cases are more complex in nature than the English ones. (b) Jhangar does not have any common cases but English has a significant number of common cases. The thesis comprises of four chapters. The first chapter deals with general background, introduction to the Jhangar language, concepts of case grammar, its marking system, English cases, review of related literature, objectives of study and significance of study. Similarly, the second chapter deals with the methodology which encompasses sources of data, sample population, sampling procedure, tools and process of data collection and limitations of the study. Likewise, the third chapter incorporates analysis and interpretation of the data. The researcher has used the descriptive style to present the Jhangar cases and he has compared and contrasted the Jhangar and English cases with examples. Finally, the last chapter consists of findings, recommendations and pedagogical implications of the study.
