Abstract
This thesis explores the negative impact of science and technology in human life as depicted in Veronica Roth’s Divergent.By taking theoretical ideas on dystopia as conceptualized by Keith Moylan, this study focuses on how technologies under totalitarian goverenment have failed to be the bliss to man kind but turned into bane and deteriorated human condition.Focus sing on how Tris, the protagonist, succumbs to totalitarian government and takes journey through icy water, dark tunnels and strange spy chambers of dystopian state,the study unveils that scientific innovations enslave people and impoverish the life-world and if mishandled, hence humans should for see the fatal consequences of over reliance on them.
