Pluralization in English and Magar Kham : A Comparative Study

Abstract
This present research entitled 'Pluralization in English and Magar attempts to find
out the process of pluralization system in Magar Kham language. I have also made
an attempt to find out the differences between English and Magar Kham language
pluralization process in regular form. To carry out this research, the researcher has
collected one hundred and forty noun words from twenty-eight different categories
and they were translated and changed in to plural form in Magar Kham lanuage by
Magar Kham speakers. Twenty-men and twenty women were selected to translate
and pluralize the words in Magar Kham from Dhime VDC ward no 7 Dhanarasi,
as the population of the study. A set of one hundred and forty words have been
administered to the selected forty Magar Kham speakers individually and they
have translated the words in Magar Kham and made them plural. The data
obtained from them has been tabulated and analyzed using the simple statistical
tools of percentage. On the basis of analysis and interpretation of data, findings
and recommendations were presented here. In this research work, all most all
respondents responded in every word they added the letter 'ra' in singular form of
uncountable nouns to make them plural in Magar Kham language. No irregular
form of pluralization process was found in the Magar Kham. Like in Nepali and
English language, plural from of uncountable nouns was not found. Decreasing
condition of Magar Kham speakers was found main problems in Magar Kham
language during the study. Due to the cross cultureal environment and impact of
Nepali language, the original vocabularies of Magar Kham are disappearing. It
was found that Magar Kham is written using Devanagari script but sound system
of Magar Kham does not match to Devanagari script.

This thesis has been divided into four chapters, the first chapter deals with
introduction and general background and the second chapter deals with the
methodology procedures of data collection. Likewise, chapter three is related to
the analysis and interpretation of data. In this chapter, the data has been tabulated
and analyzed. The last chapter is the account of findings and recommendations
