Abstract
The thesis entitled ‘Vocabulary Achievement of Grade Five' mainly explores the vocabulary achievement of fifth graders in Bodhebarsain cluster of Saptari district. The objectives of this thesis are to to find out the English vocabulary achievement of Grade Five students and to suggest some pedagogical implications based on the findings of the study. In course of writing this thesis, 40 informants were selected from different schools of Bodhebarsain cluster of Saptai district for the primary sources of data. They were randomly selected and distributed two different sets of sample test papers. Meanwhile, they were asked different questions based on a pre-set questionnaire. The head teachers and subject teachers were contacted, met, and discussed in order to collect primary sources of data. Apart from, articles, journals, magazines, along with related theses, and some related books were consulted as the secondary sources of data. The selected informants were visited and they were given the set of questionnaire and sample test papers to answer. The major findings of the thesis are : the responses in the category major word classes (content words ) indicates that the achievement of adverbs is better than that of nouns, verbs and adjectives, the greater percentage of the correct responses is in pronouns which indicates that the achievement of pronouns is better than that of conjunctions , prepositions and articles. The average calculation of both word classes shows that 24.5 i.e. 61.25% is the total vocabulary achievement of the selected students.
