dc.description.abstractThis study entitled “LANGUAGE USED IN FACEBOOK CHAT” aims to analyze the language used on online chatting in terms of linguistic, functional and sign system, code mixing related features of the language. The researcher used purposive sampling method and collected data from 15 students and analyzed those data using simple analytical tools such as frequency counts. Furthermore, qualitative datawas analyzed using thematic categorization followed by descriptive tools. The major finding of the research was that the student used grammatically and functionally ill form expressions of English language on online chatting such as most of the students used shortening and abbreviated form of words on their use of English language on online chatting. This thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction which mainly consists of the back ground of the study; Linguistic landscape and world Englishes and then statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, delimitations of the study, operational definitions of the study. The second chapter deals with review of related theoretical literature under that globalization of English, the linguistic landscape, areas and features of linguistic landscape, functions and taxonomy of linguistic landscape, linguistic features of English usage on linguistic landscape then empirical literature review then implications of the study and conceptual framework. Similarly, the third chapter deals with the methods and procedures of the study.The forth chapter is the main part of the study which includes analysis and interpretation of the data. The data is discussed descriptively. The last chapter deals with the findings, conclusions and recommendations made after the analysis of the data.en_US
