dc.description.abstractThis thesis entitled “Critique of Scientific Optimism in Ava Jae’s Beyond the Red” explores the negative influences of science and technology in human life. People are usually hopeful and postive towards the scientific innovations and innovative ideas. But the same scientific ideas and innovations begin to rule over human life. Advanced science and technology are misused by totalitarian government that has resulted in the sense of loss, misunderstanding, maladjustment, identity crisis, conflict, anxiety and so on. The main aim of science and technology is to assist in the task of human being. Unfortunately, science and technology become more harmful when the authorities use it for their personal vested interests. Technolgy by itself is not responsible for such harm, it is the power centre who misuses technology and brings negative impact upon society. This novel centers around the political mechanism of Alien Planet. The main character of the novel Eros is the son of the parents who are made to disappear by the state without any reason. The protagonist is made a helpless orphanage. Eros is a half-human and half alien soldier who has lost everything. The main character Eros is trained for combat, joining missions to serve as bodyguard of queen named Kora. Throughout the novel, Eros suffers from hunger, fear, paranoia, and identity crisis. He becomes almost lost in the midst of totalitarian government. Eros follows a young man’s journey through the icy waters, dark tunnels, and strange spy chambers of the world’s most mysterious dictatorship Alien government.en_US
