dc.description.abstractThis thesis entitled “A Comparative Study of Apologies between English andMaithili” was carried out to identify and compare the forms of apologies usedinthe English and Maithili. In order to carry out this research, I sampled 60 (30/30)native speakers of both English and Maithili through purposive/ judgemental non-random sampling procedure using questionnaire as a research tool. On the basis ofthe collected data, the comparison between English and Maithili was done usingsimple statistical tools such as frequency and percentage. The major findings of thestudy show that the English native speakers are more apologetic than the Maithilinative speakers. This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter contains general background,review of the related literature, objectives of the study, significance of the studyand definition of the specific terms. The second chapter includes sources of data,population of the study, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process ofdata collection and limitations of the study. The third chapter consists of analysisand interpretation of data and the fourth chapter contains findings andrecommendationsof the study. In the final section of the study references andappendices are included.en_US
