This thesis entitled“ Experience of Duality in Du Bois’ The Souls of Black Folk” explores the dual nature of African-American scholar Du Bois in-terms of double consciousness. This project shows how Du Bois hasbecome the spokes person for American blacks with his hybrid identityin white dominated society.Double consciousness, metaphorical use of veil, depiction of public and private souls are important frames of reference to show the duality of writer. Ambivalence, hybridity or in-between space may be signs of marginalize action, but Du Bois presents them as also empowering and advantageous for the American Blacks, an advantage denied to the dominant whites.en_US
