Abstract

Yann Martel’s Life of Pi is one of the rare works of fiction, which accumulates various cultures, religions and beliefs within the thread of harmony and universal brotherhood. Pi Patel, the central character has equal respect and dignity for the philosophy of various religions and its God/s. He visits a temple, a mosque and a church with equal enthusiasm and cherishes each of the religion with the same fervour. Despite, opposition from his family members and the community, he remains firm on his ideas and preaches the concept of unity in a society that is culturally and religiously divided; practice of multiculturalism, in the truest sense.
