Abstract

The study is about the ‘Factor affecting for professional development of mathematics teacher’. The main objectives of the study were to identify the encouraging and discouraging factors of professional development of mathematics teachers and to explore the present practices used for professional development of mathematics teachers. The design of this study is survey. To fulfill the objectives of this study the researcher collected the sample of 35 teachers from 10 high school of Kathmandu randomly. I used interview tool to collect the qualitative data with 10 secondary teachers and 5 head teachers from respective schools and to find quantitative data I used opinionnaire tool for 35 teachers. Responses obtained from opinionnaire were analyzed by five point Lickert scale with the help of mean weightage. After analyzing the qualitative and quantitative data the findings, conclusions and recommendation of the study according to the objectives and research questions are found. From all the above efforts reliable affecting factors of professional development of mathematics teacher were noticed. School administration, teachers, publications, and academic policy of nation all are responsible for the problem. Also standardized government policy, honest administration, motivational evaluation of teachers, workshop, developing national ICT skill standards, supporting R&D activities etc. can be the possible remedial measures to decrease the problems.
