Abstract

This thesis entitled "Pronominal of English and Awadhi" endeavors to show similarities and differences between the pronouns in the English and Awadhi language. For successful completion of this research, both primary and secondary sources of data have been utilized. The sample population consists of fifty native speakers of the Awadhi language in Banke district. Data for English language has been taken from secondary sources i.e. from English grammars. For the collection of data, a set of questionnaire was prepared to be asked to the respondents and then the data were analyzed to draw findings. The pronominal in Awadhi was found to have more grammatical distinctions. Unlike English, Awadhi has no gender distinctions in pronouns. Separate pronouns are used in Awadhi for third person to show proximal and distant relation. Second person honorific pronouns were found in Awadhi. Similarly, there are more number of pronouns in the Awadhi language and they have alternative forms, each equally prevalent. English lacks such element. English has more number of separate relative pronouns than the Awadhi language. This thesis contains four chapters: Introduction, Methodology, Analysis and Interpretation, and Findings and Recommendation. The first chapter is an introductory chapter which provides information on language (English and Awadhi), pronominal, contrastive analysis and so on. The second chapter deals with methodology which was applied to carry out the research. It tells us about the sources of data, study population, sampling procedures, process of data collection and the like. The third chapter deals with analysis and interpretation of the data. It finds out similarities and differences between the languages. The fourth chapter presents the findings and recommendations.
