Abstract
The main objective of this thesis is to explore why people are oriented towards
lust and how it leads people to destruction. John Webster’s play The White Devil is
the primary source to obtain data to meet this objective. In the play, for instance, the
major characters in the play are so lustful that they are involved in extramarital affairs
inviting horrible destruction as the consequences. The study, Thus, has explored the
causes that encourage people to commit adultery and explained the consequences of
lustful activities. To substantiate this issue, the play has been analyzed from the
perspective of psychoanalysis.
