Representation of Regional Marginality in Buddhisagar's Karnali Blues

Abstract

The present research deals with the issue of regional marginality. It explores how Buddhisagar's novel,Karnali Blueshelps Karnali to stand and speak in front of Kathmandu and other places. The novel introduces Karnali as distinct entity among other places. The novel helps to create a space for those places, which are always neglected in both socio-political context and literary writing of Nepal. To do so the writer has emphasized the cultural and natural values of local places. The novel gives the new perspective to the readers by focusing on the strengths of Karnali such as, the local culture, local language, natural and environmental freshness and communitarian values. Through the novel, the writer not only helps Karnali to reflect its image, but also reinforces the need of reciprocal relation between two places. To analyze how the novel gives distinct identity to Karnali, which is always put in marginalize position, this research adopts the theoretical perspective of Subaltern Studies. In Subaltern Studies,the scholars like Ranajit Guha, Dipesh Chakrabarty, Gyan Prakash, Gyanendra Pandey, Gayatri Spivak Chakravorty areconcerned with giving the voice to voiceless people and places.For this, they emphasize on the local values and local context to represent the marginal places and people.
