dc.description.abstractThis thesis aims to present a clear picture of socio-economic status of Magar community. The main objective of the study is to describe the demographic,socio-culture and socio-economic condition of the Magars of Parroha village and highlight the general life cycle rites and identify the other economic influenced on Magar culture. The data was taken through the native speaker of Magar by applying oralstructure interviews which were based on predetermined set of questions. The researcher collected primary data from Rupandehi district of Parroha VDC.Secondary data were collected from previous thesis, books, magazines,internets etc. The major findings of study have focused to find out socio-economic status of the Magar people of Parroha. A small village of Parroha VDC in Rupandehi district. Magars are one of the Hindu ethnic groups who inhabit mainly in western and mid western hilly region as well as scattered all over the Nepal.They speak Tibeto-Burman language and live in miserable condition. Magarshave their own way of performing birth, marriage and deaths of the Hindu culture as well as Buddhists. The main sources of livelihood are the unskilled labour, agriculture service and animal husbandry. They hold small land for farming. The annual income of Magar is very low and expenditure is high. The socio-economic condition shows that they are worse than average Nepalese.Most of the Magar people were lack of higher education. Male literacy is 50.32% and female literacy is 41.95% total literacy of Magar community is 92.27% which is more than national figure (i.e. 57.4%).They were not trained with any vocational guidance so, they were compelled to do unskilled wage labour to solve their life style problems. The nature of their labours is seasonaland is paid very little. All these reasons have adverse effect on their socio-economic condition. In case of insufficiency of food-grains, 24.14%households got additional support from different services, 60.34% got support from pension and remaining 15.52% had to depend upon wage labour in local areas and foreign countries.en_US
