Abstract
This thesis entitled 'Adposition in Bhojpuri and English: A Comparative Study is an
attempt to identify postpositions in the Bhojpuri language and to compare and contrast
them with those of English. The researcher has found that English employs prepositions
before noun and pronouns whereas the Bhojpuri language employs postposition after
nouns and pronouns. The Bhojpuri language has the same postposition to represent
different preposition in English. The researcher collected data from eighty native
speakers of Bhojpuri language of two different VDCs of Bara district. Forty informants
from each VDC were interviewed to provide necessary information. Both primary and
secondary sources were consulted to carry out this research work.
This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with general background
which includes linguistic situation in Nepal, an introduction to Bhojpuri Language and
introduction to preposition, CA and its importance on language teaching, review of
related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. Similarly, chapter
two deals with methodology. It involves sources of data, population of the study,
sampling procedure, research tools and process of data collection and limitations of the
study. Chapter three presents analysis and interpretation of data. It has the identification
of postpositions in Bhojpuri and similarities and differences between Bhojpuri
postpositions and English prepositions. Eventually, the chapter four presents findings and
recommendations and pedagogical implications.
