dc.description.abstractThis research explores the gender trauma evoking the tormented state of the female character Gauri in Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Lowland (2013). Taking idea from Urvashi Bhutalia’s The Other Side of Silence and Kamala Bhasin’s Inception of Trauma and Gender Role, the notion of gender trauma, this work analyzes the experiences of being widow in Indian-Bengali traditional society and also analyzes the traumatic situation of a woman in patriarchal society. The significance of this study is to show how the supreme ideology of male is deeply rooted and affects the psychology of female character and how she try to cope with the situation. Hence, the researcher concludes how Gauri succeeds in forgetting her traumatic sufferings through different creative works.en_US
