dc.description.abstractABSTRACT This study entitled “Proficiency in Free Writing of Grade Eleven Students of Kathmandu Valley” attempts to find out and explain the proficiency in free writing of higher secondary level students belonging to the streams of humanities, education and commerce of Kathmandu valley. For this study students of grade eleven of Kathmandu valley,ten from each stream, viz,education, commerce and humanities were selected to collect relevant data for the completion of this research. In order to collect relevant data a set of test items consisting of three questions was administered to the students. The data were analyzed and interpreted using simple statistical tools of average and percentage. This study was limited within free writing proficiency of grade eleven students of Kathmandu valley. The researcher found out that the writing proficiency in writing a letter was better than in paragraph writing and in essay writing. The free writing proficiency of the students belonging to the stream of humanities was found to be better than the students from the streams of education and commerce. This study consists of four chapters. Chapter one encompasses general background of the study which deals with writing,components of writing, process writing, mechanics of writing, writing proficiency, characteristics of good writing, importance of writing,free writing, review of the related literature, objectives and significance of the study. Chapter two deals with the methodology which includes sources of data, population of study, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study. Chapter three presents the analysis and interpretation of the data such as holistic analysis, item-wise analysis, gender-wise analysis and stream-wise analysis. Chapter four presents the summary of the findings and some recommendations made on the basis of analysis and interpretation. This chapter is followed by references and appendices.en_US
