Educational Status of Bote Community (A Case Study of Agyouli VDC of Nawalparasi District)

Abstract
Bote is one of the indigenous castes of Nepal and they have
contributed equally to the well being of motherland as other Nepalese.
Major source of income of Bote is fishing and boating. Traditionally they
are less dependent on farming, after the construction of suspension
bridges over Narayani River. The main source of their income is
compelled to give up in the same way the license system has deprived
them at their traditional occupation of fishing. Due to the lack of the
sources of Livelihood, their living condition is deteriorating. Most of
them are unemployed and unskilled wage laboures and are paid very
little. They do not send their kids to the school because they can not pay
fee and other expenses in one side and they have lack of awareness in this
regard in another side, Botes are minority group of this VDC.
The over all objective of the study is to assess to study effect at
economical, Social and cultural environment on Botes people's education
again identify the wrong concepts of Bote people in educational study
their input an education and to find the ways of eradicating them.
The study has been mainly focused on educational status of Bote
community this study also trying to find out to effect in economic, social,
cultural and health from education also we find out their ways of living
occupation, language, tradition, religion an several other aspects of the
Bote community. The study has carried out in the villages of Agyauli
VDC of Nawalparasi district.
This report has been organized in to 6 chapters; chapter one
covers background of the study, statement of the research problem and
objectives of the research, chapter two is concentrated on review of

literature. The chapter three deals with methodology of study and four
with the general introduction of the study area such as physical profile
demographic profile, educational composition, natural resources and
chapter five present the analysis and interpretation of data and major
finding of the study. Lastly the summary of findings, conclusion and
recommendations, in appendixes questionnaire for house hold survey
checklist etc are presented.
There are two types of Bote Pani Bote and Pakhe Bote Pakhe Bote
are those who spend their time doing the work which has no consult with
water, like agriculture, animals husbandry working. But Pani Bote spend
their time for fishing and boating, gold panning etc. The general status of
education of Bote in the study area was found to be very much below the
national average. The literacy rate is found different in male and female
members. 3.26% Bote student in Agyuli VDC where 1.86% Boyes and
1.39% are girls.
All male members are illiterate while some female members are
literate which is unlikely to other community in Nepal. None of the house
holds have reported that they have permanent almost all the house holds
of the study area consulted traditional healers. 46.875 % Bote income is
less than Rs. 20,000 in year.
Last of traditional occupation and lack of capability to find new
and modern type of job is serious problem to Bote people to sustain their
lively hood. So the detects on law and regulation of government should be
amended to make their life easier.
