Abstract
Marquez's Memories of My Melancholy Whores unearths the vitality of sex in human life viewing it as an important ingredient of life. The unnamed narrator of the novel is ninety years old, yet active and energetic in sexual intercourse. His active and rather comfortable life is the effect of his sexual adventures throughout his life. Sex makes him creative and enthusiastic by freeing him from the traumatic situation caused by the repression of sexual desires. His writings at the newspaper make him evergreen lover at the age of ninety. Everyone likes his column, and he becomes a celebrity at once. Therefore, his creativity is the cause of his fulfillment of repressed desires.
