The present study deals with the frustration of sexual drives and its consequence in the life of the protagonist in Tennessee Williams' The Night of the Iguana. The abnormal behaviours-anxiety, forgetfulness, aversion to sensuality, obsession, guilt feeling and suicidal attempt-have altered his personality from church priest to a neurotic. The root of the above behaviours-as pathogenic manifestation of the repression-can be traced back especially to the traumatic childhood experience and the later submission to the religious study and practice at the cost of senses.en_US
