Abstract
This study entitled Challenges Faced by Maithili Speaking Students While Learning English intended to identify the challenges faced by Maithili speaking students while learning English. This study followed quantitative research method. It was based on survey research design. Four public Schools of Rupani Rural Municipality' were selected assample by using purposive non-random samplingstrategy and forty basic level,Maithili speaking students were selected as sample by using random sampling strategy. In this study, questionnaire was used as research tool. The data collected through questionnaire were analysed descriptively and thematically. From the analysis of data and interpretations of the results, it is found that Maithili speaking students has been facing challenges regarding comprehension, communication and proficiency. Similarly, most of the students faced problem in reading and speaking. Due to their mother tongue interference, Maithili speaking students have felt hesitation and difficulty to speak English because of hesitation they could not speak English with their friends as well as with their teachers. This study consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions,significance of the study, delimitations of the study and the definitions of the key terms. The second chapter deals with the review of the theoretical and empirical literature, implications of the review for the study and conceptual frame work of the study. Likewise, the third chapter deals with the methodology adopted for the study which includes design of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, research tools, sources of data, data collection procedures, data analysis procedure and Ethical considerations.Collected data were analysed descriptively by using simple statistical tool i.e., percentage. Similarly, the fifth chapter presents the findings, conclusion and recommendations based on the analysis and interpretation of the data.This chapter is also followed by references and appendices.
