The main objectives of this study were to list the exponents of offering used by English and Newar native speakers and to compare them on the basis of forms. For this study, I prepared two sets of questionnaire (one in English and one in Nepali) consisting 20 items in each language to collect the required information. I selected 40 native speakers from the English language and 40 from the Newar languages by using convenience sampling procedures. The overall findings of the study show that for making offer, there are more different exponents in the Newar language than in the English language. Formally Interrogative forms are found to be more common in the English language whereas assertive forms in the Newar language. Unlike in English politeness does not depend on the form of exponents in the Newar language. The study has been presented in four chapters. The first chapter consists of general background, the English language, linguistic scenario of Nepal, an introduction to the Newar language, general background of Newar, offering, an overview of pragmatics, an overview of contrastive analysis, review of related literature and objectives of the study. The second chapter describes the methodology applied to carry out the study which includes primary sources of data, secondary sources of data, tools used for collecting data, procedures for data collection and limitation of the study. The third chapter consists of analysis and interpretation of the data. The finding derived from the analysis and interpretation of data and recommendations are presented in the fourth chapter. In the final section of study, the references and appendices are included.en_US
