Analysis of Encouraging and Warning in English and Nepali

Abstract

This study was carried out to identify and compare the exponents o fEncouraging and Warning used by the native English and Nepali speakers. For this research work, the researcher took sample population from British Council,British School, and Kathmandu International Study Center (KISC), which consisted of 20 native English speakers. And 60 Nepali speakers were taken from Faculty of Education, TU, Kirtipur. The study was entirely based on the primary data i.e. the responses from the native English and Nepali speakers through questionnaire distributed to them. Then the responses given by the senative speakers were collected for analysis and interpretation. On the basis of analyses and interpretation the researcher came up with the conclusion that the native English speakers were found more formal than their Nepali counterparts while encouraging, and the native Nepali speakers were found more for malthan the native English speakers while warning in different relationships. They use polite form of language in formal situation. The study is divided into four chapters. Chapter one is an introductory chapter.It includes general background, review of related literature, objectives of the study. Chapter two deals with the methodology applied to carry out there search under which sources of data,sampling procedure, tools of data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study were presented. Chapter three includes the analysis and interpretation of all the data.In this chapter both statistical as well as descriptive approach are adopted.Chapter four incorporates findings and recommendations of the research work.The reference and appendix are included at the concluding parts of the thesis.
