Abstract
This study is about the use of prepositions. Prepositions are a highly different and confusing grammatical item for the English as a second language learner. Many students are likely to commit mistakes in the use of prepositions. In the context of Nepal, students are likely to use preposition sincorrectly because the Nepali language has only post positions but not prepositions. The main objective of this study was to find out the proficiency of 9 the graders in the use of prepositions. Along with this objective, the comparison has been made between different text and Nepali and English medium school students. The researcher has made the comparison between different medium of instruction for teaching. The study consists of four different chapters. The first chapter deals with introduction to the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology adopted while carrying out the study. The third chapter presents the analysis and interpretation of the data collected from various schools. The data obtained have been analyzed and interpreted with the help of statistical measures. The marks scored by individual schools, the average marks and comparison of the marks among and between the schools can also be seen in this chapter. Lastly, the forth chapter states the findings of the study. On the basis of the analysis and interpretation what the existing problems are and how they can be corrected have been suggested here.
