Child Labour in Local Buses of Kathmandu Valley

Abstract

The research objective was to identify and understand the socio-economic situation of child works in local transportation as well as push and pull factors for child labor. The term Child labour describes; employing children under 16 for paid or unpaid work. The research is a qualitative and quantitative study conducted through a structured questionnaire procedure that results the collection of the 10 responses from a purposive based sampling. The data were collected in the area from Jorpati, Balaj, Koteshwor, Ratnapark, and Kalanaki from the child labour of local transportation of the Kathmandu valley. This study is an academic research or individual project work which has been carried out as a part of study of a Master degree namely Sociology in affiliation with Tribhuvana University. Hence the research is purely conducted with the view of gaining knowledge and information in the concerned field of child labour in local transportation of Kathmandu valley. In the study, it was found out that, ethnic community, poor, under secondary level educated and conflict family members were mostly involved in the local transportation of the Kathmandu valley.
