Abstract
Nepal is a beautiful country with multi-cultural diversity within different indigenouscommunities. Community Based Entrepreneurship is an alternative for the communitydevelopment. Still women are neglecting as effectivehuman resource in the rural areain the economic activities. Community based entrepreneurship can mobilize thewomen effectively.In this context, the general objective of the study is to examine the socio-economicimpact of community based entrepreneurship on the local community andparticipation of women. The study site was purposefully selected community basedentrepreneurship,Newa Lahanaat Kirtipurmunicipality, Kathmandu district. NewaLahana is being run as community based entrepreneurship by Newar communityofThambahal, Kirtipur.In this connection, this study hasevaluated the current status ofwomen, socio-economic impact of CBE in women and the challenges that have beenfacing in the study area. Hence, the study hadbeendesigned under quantitative andqualitative approach of a case study methodology in which required data hadbeencollected from71sample respondents that is whole universal sample populations whoare significantly benefitted from study area (Newa Lahana). Data was collectedthrough household survey questionnaire and key informant interview techniques.Similarly, thecollected data has beenanalyzed statistically by using SPSS-20 and byblending qualitative information.The findings of the study reflect that there was the positive socio-economic impact ofcommunity based entrepreneurship (Newa Lahana) in the local women. Beingmarried and mostly illiterate women were found to earn good income and becomeeconomically independent .The women became more activeparticipation in socialactivities as well as family decision making. The relationship with community isharmonized and united as result social capital was increased and development of local women and community supplementary occurred.Despite of many positive impacts there were some challenges too which were faced by women during their working time in Newa Lahana. So, the first challenge was insufficient training to working women. Likewise, low salary, lack of holidays,communication gap, stress due to work were other major challenges found in study area.
