This thesis explores the 'Revelation of Patriarchal Social Reality' in the Sophoclean tragedies—AntigoneandElectra. Sophocleshas raised some rebellious ladies-Antigone, Electra in these plays in the beginning but in the concluding part, he internalizes the idea of the need for the establishment of patriarchal social system. He has exposed patriarchal social reality in the existing society and ultimate failure of women to establish their own norms due to patriarchal ideology prevailing in the society. Sophocles has done his best to show patriarchy as a necessary institution which is just and according to nature and that its abolition would be unnatural and would lead to anarchy.en_US
