dc.description.abstractThis thesis entitled "Causativization in English and Maithili" intends to compare and contrast causativization of the two languages English and Maithili. Theresearcher utilizedboth primary andsecondary sources of data. In order to collectthe primary sourcesof data a set of test consisting of ten English sentences to betranslated into Maithili, ten Maithilisentencesto be translated into English,Underline the correct form of verbs given inthe bracket and a composition workwas prepared and the informants were asked to respond to the tests.Thepopulation included 60 Maithili speaking students from three different campusesof Saptary and Siraha districts. The answer sheets also included some preliminarydetails about the informants. After collecting the data researcher analyzed andinterpretedthem. The major findingsof the present studyindicatethatMaithilicausativization differs from English in various aspects. However, there are somesimilarities as well.The use of morphological causative in Maithili is a significantdifference from English. Thethesisconsists of four chapters. Chapter one deals with general background,an overview of Maithili language, English language and its significance inNepalese education, importance of grammar, grammar and causativization. It alsodeals with review of related literature, objectives of the study, significance of thestudy and definition of the specific terms. Chapter two is concerned with themethodology used in thestudy. It includes sources of data, population of the study,sampling procedure, research tool, process of data collection and limitations of thestudy. Chapter three deals with analysis and interpretation of the data whichincludescausativization in English, causativization in Maithili, syntax ofcausativization, semantics of causation, verification of Maithili causativization andCA of English and Maithili Causativization. Chapter four incorporates findings,recommendations and pedagogical implications of the study.en_US
