Subject-Verb Agreement in English Anddhimal

Abstract

This thesis entitled “Subject-Verb Agreement inEnglish andDhimal” accountsfor the subject-verb agreement system in the Dhimal language to compare andcontrast withthatof theEnglish language and to suggest some pedagogicalimplications on the basis of the findings derived from the study. The data werecollected from the forty native speakers of the Dhimal language. The researcherconcluded that the Dhimal verbs agree with tense, aspect, person and number. This research studycontains four chapters.The first chapter deals with thebackground about the thesis. This chapter contains status of the Englishlanguage and linguistic scenario in Nepal. This chapter also includes a briefintroduction to the Dhimal language, its dialectal varieties, an introduction toCA, some rules of the subject-verb agreement in the English language. Inaddition, the related literatures, objectives of the study, significance of thestudy and definitions of the related terms have also been included in thechapter. The second chapter states the procedures adopted for collecting data,sources of data, population of the study and the limitations of the study.Similarly, the third chapter contains the analysis, interpretation andpresentationof the data.In this chapter, the subject-verb agreement systems ofboth the languages have been compared and contrasted in terms of thesimilarities and differences observed. The findings and some pedagogicalimplications of the study have been listed in the last chapter.
