dc.description.abstractThe main purpose of the present study entitled ‘Strategies Used by Eighth Graders in Learning English Vocabulary’ was to investigate the English vocabulary learning strategies employed by the high and low achievers of grade eight. The study was conducted with eighty students (40 high achievers and 40 low achievers) studying in grade eight in the public schools of Kathmandu district. The data for the study were collected through questionnaire and interview. A vocabulary learning strategy questionnaire designed following the likert method was administered to the students to gather the required information. A structured interview schedule was used for collecting data from the teachers. The finding of the study showed that the high achievers used a wider variety of vocabulary learning strategies than the low achievers. This study consists of four chapters.Chapter one includes general background to the study, review of the related literature, objectives of the study, significance of the study and definitions of the specific terms. Chapter two deals with methodology used for the study which includes sources of data, population of the study, sample population, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study. Similarly, chapter three incorporates analysis and interpretation of the data. Chapter four presents the findings of the study. It also suggests some pedagogical implications based on the findings.en_US
