Abstract
The research entitled land and identity in John Steinbeck’s of mice and men deals about the life of migrant ranch worker, the ranch worker migrates from one place to another in search of the job in the great depression era, how the land become the bonding tie between the migrant ranch worker and their existence , how land is the milestone for the foundation of the identity, dignity of the ranch worker is being reflected in the work, how the land plays the major role for the survival in the ranch workers how land creates the feeling of ownness and belongness among the migrant ranch worker is depicted in the work . Since land is the root, the work focuses on the close affirmitiy between the land and the migrant ranch workers it deals how hard the migrants struggle for the possessing of the land. Basically the research is concerned with how the land is the major factor for the discovery of their identity, dignity and existence, after the meticulous study on the novel in the light of various ecocritics .
